Sheep Farm Tour
Paerangi is a 1000 acre, hill-country sheep and cattle farm, situated amongst picturesque limestone bluffs, hills and valleys of the north Waikato.
Paerangi is approximately 2 hours drive south from Auckland city.
Farmed by 2nd generation family owners, a visit to Paerangi, home to 1300 sheep and 275 cattle is a once-in-a-life-time true Kiwi experience. Few visitors to New Zealand get the chance to tour a real working sheep and cattle farm with the farmer, let alone have the opportunity to share an authentic farmhouse lunch with award-wining New Zealand wines.
A highlight at Paerangi is watching the wily sheepdogs rounding up and bringing in the sheep for the farmer to shear in the woolshed. Maybe you’d like to try your hand at shearing too?
ITINERARY
Tours are from Auckland city, or you are welcome to self-drive to Paerangi.

Special note: Paerangi is a working farm. Tours are limited throughout the year and are private only. Requests to visit the farm require a minimum of 48hrs notice.
Tour options
Depart from Auckland city at 8.30AM, returning approx. 4PM, spending 4hrs at Paerangi. This tour includes, luxury transport and insightful commentary from a local expert guide. The journey from Auckland to Paerangi sheep farm is relaxing and informative, including viewing the grand Arts & Crafts style architecture of Taurangawaewae House, the parliament building erected in 1919 for the Māori King movement. This rarely visited site is the perfect backdrop for photos and to learn of some of New Zealand’s most significant Māori and European history.

Hobbiton Movie Set.
Paerangi is an easy 1.5 hour drive from the Hobbiton Movie Set, which means a visit to Paerangi can be followed by an afternoon tour of Hobbiton before returning to Auckland. Duration for both Paerangi and Hobbiton tours is approx 13 hrs.
Hamilton Gardens.
Awarded ‘Garden of the Year’ at the 2014 International Garden Tourism Awards in Metz, France. Hamilton Gardens features 21 gardens representing the art, beliefs, lifestyles and traditions of different civilisations or historical garden styles, in a 54 hectare (133 acre) park in the riverside city of Hamilton. Duration for both Hamilton Gardens and Hobbiton tour is approx 11 hrs.
